History of the Cane Corso
The Cane Corso (pronounced Connie Corso) is a rare breed molossar
brought to the United States from the vineyards and farmer's fields of
Italy. The history of this breed goes as far back as the history of the
Italic people themselves. The breed itself was rescued from the brink
of extinction, by some devoted enthusiasts in Italy, in the latter half
of the 20th century. It's actual roots can be traced to the ancient
Greeks.

Actual documented use of the term "Cane corso" can be dated back to
1137, to a location near Rome. Over the years the breed has served many
purposes from hunter, warrior, guard dog to pet. This multi functional
background is what lead us to the outstanding example of working canine
that we have today. The Cane Corso is a great guard dog. Loyal to it's
family, while maintaining it's aloof nature with strangers. He is
protective but still able to tell friend from foe. Submissive to his
family and suspicious of strangers.
The cane corso is great house dog, large, athletic, and intelligent and barking only when alerted to an unfamiliar situation.

This breed truly deserves the title "working dog". Corso's have earned
titles from flyball to personal protection, from confirmation showing
to police work. Socialization is an absolute must with this breed. They
bond very tightly with their family unit, but require as much
socialization to the outside world as possible. This should be started
as early as possible! Remember, this is a very dominant breed of dog.
